On this day in 2023, I was enduring the painful process of losing my beloved Pate.

Pate graced this world for 10 wonderful years, beginning her journey in 2013. She moved homes twice, each time receiving love from those who cared for her. Pate was full of energy, always playful, and even protected her home by catching mice.

Pate was a beautiful gift to Andrew, warming his heart and teaching him so much about responsibility and compassion. The process of raising Pate helped Andrew become more attentive to the things around him.

In the summer of 2022, Pate’s health began to decline for the first time due to chronic kidney disease, likely a result of aging and a tick bite. After some treatment and care, she showed signs of recovery. However, by August 2023, exactly a year later, her health took a turn for the worse. Pate became less active, stopped eating and drinking, but remained close to Andrew.

For nearly a month, as they faced this difficult time together, both Andrew and Pate knew their time was running out. Rather than prolonging her pain with treatments, Andrew chose to spend their final days together in a gentle, meaningful way. He dedicated this time to creating beautiful memories, taking Pate to serene and lovely places that she adored. Pate, who always loved being in nature, enjoyed these trips deeply.

Can you believe that Pate was nearing the end of her life when you look at the joyful and serene photos below?
